Web Design (Authoring) Modules - WEB-101A:  Web Development Modules WEB-101B:  E-Commerce Modules:  Advanced Modules (Continued Education modules. Subject to a separate tuition fee)

  Introduction to the Internet Architecture
Students will receive an overview of the Internet, including it's construction, the communication protocols used for Internet access, and information flow. They will become familiar with DNS and TCP/IP concepts, as well as with differences between several major browsers - Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Netscape Communicator.

Nearly every new computer comes bundled with a Web browser. Today's Web browsers are no longer simple pieces of software with limited functionality. The newest generation of browsers gives you the power to manage Web activities in ways unheard of a few years ago. You will learn how to setup, customize and expand the functionality of browsers.

  Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
This topic provides you with thorough understanding of the concepts behind Web development and the architecture of the World Wide Web. You will receive in-depth training in HTML (the document description language in which Web pages are written), and apply your knowledge to the Web pages you will create during Labs.

 CGI Scripting with Perl
This topic introduces you to scripting as a programming language for Web browsers. You will learn about this scripting language through an exploration of real world examples. CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripts are the small programs that are used to process the information entered into Web forms.
Perl is one of the most used programming languages to write CGI scripts.

 Adobe Dreamweaver 8.0
Dreamweaver has emerged as the tool of choice for professional Web builders to construct complex sites in a visual environment. It has particularly interesting functionality that allows for seamless integration with an external HTML Editor like HomeSite+. As the industry's #1 professional HTML editor, it has the intuitive WYSIWYN (what you see is what you need) interface gives you all the necessary site-building tools right at your fingertips.

Dreamweaver 8.0 (the latest version) has everything you need to develop a professional Web site, including building Flash graphics directly in Dreamweaver.

Whether you use the visual layout tools or its text-editing environment, the intuitive Adobe User Interface makes it easy.
Macromedia HomeSite+ is included with Adobe Dreamweaver 8.0.

In this class, students will master the skills necessary to build attractive, dynamic web pages that respond intelligently to their users' actions. They will also develop the site management skills needed to check their site's links, track the site hierarchy, manage updates, strengthen the active content of Web pages through Dreamweaver's automation and database features, and create "cross-browser" code that supports both Netscape and Microsoft browsers.

 Advanced Web Design and Styles
In this part of a course we will teach you how to create professionally-looking Web sites combining background colors, text colors, and tables to create an attractive layout that will be downloaded quickly and displayed consistently in all browsers. You will learn about colors and how to design Web pages in the context of widely varying monitor resolutions and display capabilities. We will teach you the basics about how visitors view Web pages and process the information they see there. A consistent, thought-out design scheme will make your content more accessible, appealing, and powerful.

 Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Introduction to CSS teaches you the HTML skills necessary to develop more sophisticated layouts, font schemes, and interactivity for your pages. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is an enhancement to HTML that allows for a high degree of control of page layout and text formatting. The combination of style sheets and JavaScript is referred to as dynamic HTML (DHTML). They are both tools any serious designer should explore. While HTML allowed background colors and images on a page, with CSS, background colors and images can be applied to individual elements of the page for the first time. Page elements may be overlaid and overlapped to create effects such as drop-shadows and other sophisticated layouts and design schemes.
The students will use the CSS to design the web sites in accordance to the latest industry standards.
Graphic Design with Adobe Photoshop and Flash Professional
Through multiple hands-on Labs, the Graphic Design section of this course will teach you to enhance your Web sites with attractive graphics and animations.
You will use Adobe Photoshop - one of the most popular and powerful program for graphic design. You will draw, paint, use color tools for various effects, edit or create new images.
Adobe (former Macromedia) Flash is the solution for producing and delivering high-impact Web sites. Web developers use Flash to create beautiful, re-sizeable, and extremely small and compact navigation interfaces, technical illustrations, long-form animations, and other dazzling effects for Web sites and other Web-enabled devices (such as WebTV) reaching the widest possible audience via the Flash Player, installed on 98% of desktops globally.
Flash graphics and animations are created using the drawing tools in Flash or by importing artwork from your favorite vector illustration tool.

 Web Marketing Technique
Today's biggest technological trend is the overwhelming dominance of marketing over innovation. The days are gone for garage-based startup companies with new technology, no matter how good that technology is. Over the past several years, many garage-based startups like Yahoo!, Excite, and eBay have made investors rich overnight. But these are NOT technology companies. They are incredible marketing machines using established technology. We will teach you the basics of Web Marketing, such as methods to attract more visitors to your Web site. You will discover the secrets of Internet search engines, ways to make money on the Internet, and other advanced tips and tricks. We will also discuss The Copyright Protection options and Law.

  Introduction to Web Scripting
This course module introduces the student to programming concepts and Web scripting such as VBScript and JavaScript. They are very interesting languages which require few solid rules, and the syntax is easy to master. Also, this module is designed to attract and prepare newcomers to the world of programming and Web development. Students will develop a flow chart to describe a problem, and then utilize VB Script and JavaScript to implement that task.

 JavaScript
The scripting language that was created by Netscape is one of the most popular in a Web Development world. You will enjoy the elegant effects that can be created for your Web pages using JavaScript. Full of step-by-step examples, this course provides a detailed, hands-on introduction to developing useful scripts for activating Web sites.

 Introduction to Relational Database
Every Web Developer must know how to create, improve, and manage database-enabled Web sites in the ever-changing world of the Web. Most of the information assets often are already available but not yet accessible. You will learn:
* How to improve your Web Site with database tools
* How to add Web Database connectivity
* Using ODBC to integrate multiple databases into your Web
* Technique of implementing MS-SQL, MS-Access and Oracle databases for your Web site

 VB Script
Visual Basic Script (VBScript) is the easiest language for web page creation. This course introduces how to customize Web pages to make them user friendly, and extend them with interactive forms, events and HTML input control inside the script. Also, the course will teach you to create decision-making steps in code, how to control VBScript using events and by connecting to a database, and how to use query tables and data manipulation such as INSERT, DELETE and UPDATE.

  Introduction to XML
XML is the first wave of next-generation Web technologies. Platform-independent and self-sufficient, XML pages, once built, can be interpreted by many applications. In addition, XML makes your data accessible to a wide range of dynamic effects. At InfoWorld's CTO Forum last May, CTOs agreed that XML is a primary standard for e-commerce and a key e-business enabler. Students will learn how Web developers can write their own tags (not being restricted by the tags defined in the HTML specifications), that can cover any number of flexible purposes. Developers can then specify how the tags are interpreted through Document Type Definition (DTDs) documents, and how they are displayed on the Web with eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) documents.

  Active Server Pages (ASP)
This topic covers server side programming for ASP Server - the server-side platform that supports scripting for Microsoft Internet Information server (IIS). This scripting is useful for connecting various databases such as MS-Access and MS-SQL, with Web pages. ASPs make it easy to integrate real-time information from any ODBC-compliant data source such as MS Access, Excel, SQL Server, Oracle, or Sybase. You may increase the possible functionality of your ASPs by installing server-side ActiveX components. We will show you how to use Internet Information Server's built-in components to send e-mail, write text files, and connect to a database. Students will become familiar with ASP Objects, ADO Object, and ActiveX Servers.

Web Publishing to the Internet Servers  Web Publishing to the Internet Servers
